Croup, Pink Eye & an Ear Infection, Oh my!

by - September 24, 2012

Looking fine on Saturday before getting sick, went to church after this, maybe he got it from the nursery?

Today has been a day of Mommy stress. Let me start from the beginning though.
Yesterday I spent the day with my Mom and noticed Ace had some green goop coming from his eye. I made an appointment for him to be seen a the doctors that day (so thankful for weekend office hours). They were able to take him in the late afternoon so he had a short nap and we headed over. The doctor there gave him a quick check, confirmed it was pink eye and sent us on our way. I had mentioned him having a bit of a cough and runny nose and he said he basically had an all over cold. I went over to my brother's cousin Jen's house to get some liquid gold for his eye and let the kids play (we watched them to make sure they didn't touch each others faces and wiped his hands before they played, he hadn't been touching his eye). Ace got cranky after awhile and kept signing milk and we headed home. He was in a good mood when Branden got home and it seemed like all was fine. Then as the night went on his cough got worse. Branden got him Little Colds and we put him to bed. After about 2 hours he was up crying and miserable. We let him stay up for a bit then put him back down and he was up again not long after we headed to bed. This continued all night. I basically got no sleep.
In the morning we got an early appointment and headed back to the doctors since he was making a wheezing sound and his eye was now swollen.
Sunday night, check out that yucky eye and nose  but still smiling

The doctor was shocked to see that his eye was swollen and since his nose was running she checked his ears and he had an ear infection as well as croup and pink eye. She said that since he was smiling and dancing that she wasn't going to send him to the hospital but she wanted him to get a steroid drink and come back in the afternoon to check his chest again and if it wasn't better (which she kind of seemed like she didn't think it would be since he was so bad) then he would have to go to the hospital.
fell asleep in our bed holding his bottle of water, poor thing was drinking water non-stop

We headed home and both passed out for hours. Ace slept from 11 to 3 and I slept till 2. Then I had to wake him up to go back to the doctors and his eye was no longer swollen and he wasn't wheezing when he breathed. He still have a cough but nothing like before. The nurse we had before was shocked when she saw him and when the doctor came in she said she hasn't seen someone have that quick of a recovery in a long time. No hospital visit for him!
I am just praying he is able to sleep and not wake up miserable.
