Perfectly Imperfect Mom

Better late than never right? We did a joint party again for the girls this year. Originally I thought I wouldn't get around to doing one because things had been so crazy but Ashlyn kept talking about having a birthday party so I threw one together last minute. I called my best friend Kat and told her to come help me (because I don't do parties without her) and she was more than happy to help with the festivities. I planned it during her girls Spring Break and St. Patrick's Day. So perfect!

I wanted to do an early party because that is when my kids are at their best. This also made food easier and more difficult because it wasn't really breakfast or lunch time. We decided on donuts, muffins, cupcakes, confetti popcorn and fruit. Drinks we easy since we had water and juice.

Since we have a large front yard on a cul de sac we put everything out front for the kids.
I wanted to have a bunch of activities for them to do so I knew for sure we would have our Little Tikes bounce house out (seriously best purchase we ever made when Ace was a toddler). I also bought a bunch of crayons from Amazon, this bubble machine, sidewalk chalk and a big unicorn coloring poster.

Kat and her oldest daughter made the cupcakes. I bought little unicorns from Target's dollar spot. They worked out perfect as little toppers.  I also got the favors from there too. They had wood unicorn and robot painting kits. Seriously, I love Target's dollar spot. I also got unicorn stamps and sunglasses for the girls there.
I picked out these dresses in purple and aqua for the girls to wear for the party. Then she put on this dress and then Everly decided it wasn't happening so she wear some random pair of shorts and t-shirt. I finally got her to agree to put her dress on for cake pictures and she put a Mickey zip up on over it. Such a stinker. I also realized I didn't get any great pictures of the girls together but I did at school for Everly's actual birthday so you get what you get, right?

This picture cracks me up. They were waiting for us to sing to them and were like hurry up!

Since the girls are still young I really wanted to do a party for them together. They share everything and honestly doing two parties I feel like can be a bit much when they all have the same friends and family members and they are literally like twins at this age. Same size clothes, same toys, same room, pretty much on the same level learning wise. The age gap has pretty much closed so why not just do it till they want them separate?

So of course since there is 2 of them turning 2 I had to do a TuTu theme party. My best friend Kat did all the desserts because she is truly amazing and we kept it fairly simple.

We set up our bounce house outside.
Had a dress up station.
And a piñata, which I will never do again, at least not the ones where you hit it. I was traumatized.
And of course had the girls favorite character come, Elsa! Ashlyn was in Heaven! Everly was scared of her so she didn't go near her. This is when we realized she isn't into characters at all. Well, she likes them from a far but up close is a no go.

Everly,

You are officially 2 years old! It feels like you have been 2 forever though. You have always been advanced for your age and I swear you were never truly a baby or at least never wanted to be.
You have truly come into your own and are such a happy go luck girl. You smile constantly and are very silly.
You talk up a storm, count to 10, sing your ABC's and any other song you know. You love coloring and singing. You also are really into doing flips with Mommy's help. You are just like I was in that department. I used to walk up my brother's legs and he'd hold my hands and I would flip, you do the same thing minus walking up my legs since I just pick you up and you do it. It's hilarious because you just do it over and over again.
You are still obsessed with baby dolls, it's actually boarding on an addiction.
The carwash is terrifying
You take your time warming up to people. You hate being leg in church daycare making it really hard to go. You literally scream till they come and get me. You are very sensitive to new places and people just like I was when I was little. You are very much a clone of me in a lot of ways.
I also love that you are my little helper. You love to clean up and put things away.
We will also begin potty training you soon! You now tell us when you need a diaper change.
A not so fun thing you are doing now is getting up super early. You also started climbing out of your crib so you are now in a "toddler bed" which is just the side off of your crib. Tonight is the first night we will be trying this out.
We love you so much little Gertie (yes, we still call you that!).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ASHLYN!
You are just the sweetest little thing. Your smile brightens my days and I love you so much.

Your personality is so funny to me. You are a mix of sweetness and stubbornness. You listen so well yet you will do something you aren't supposed to and if you get caught you walk away like it wasn't you. It's so funny.

You are starting to talk more and more. You and Everly have your own language so at times it's very frustrating to get you to say words that actually make sense to us. Slowly but surely though!

You are a very picky eater. You don't really like meat, which I am fine with as long as you eat other forms of protein. You love to read books, cuddle and watch movies. I can see you being the kid who is very introspective like your cousin Brianna. You remind me so much of her it's crazy.
You are obsessed with your Minnies and anything Frozen (books, movie, microphone). You love dressing up and coloring.
You love being outside and playing with sidewalk chalk. I think your favorite thing ever is being in the pool. You see the pool and just point to it and ask over and over "pool?". You are a total water baby like I was! You learned to swim very early. I think you were about 18 months. You were our earliest swimmer by far.
I can't wait to see how much you learn this year. I know it's going to be a big one for talking for you. You are trying to hard. I love you so much my little angel baby!

This year I decided I wanted to keep Ace's party easy.  He has been talking about having an Avengers party for forever so we knew the theme would be Super Heroes.

Since his birthday is in the Summer we always plan an indoor party because every year (except this year of course) it has rained on his party day. It is also disgustingly hot and humid here so no one enjoys outdoor parties unless they are water related in the Summer.

I finally decided a movie theme would be perfect. Ace has really gotten into going to the movies so we borrowed my friends projector and popcorn maker for an authentic movie night!

Basket: Similar
Branden Mcgyver'd up a screen on the wall where our TV usually sits and we threw a bunch of pillows and blankets on the floor to make it extra cozy. I bought these chairs and my friend passed down her daughter's to my girls so we had extra seating with those as well.

I wanted to keep food simple too so I made Buffalo Chicken Dip, ordered pizza and made up a Popcorn bar. I just bought a bunch of candies from the grocery store so the kids could throw them in their bags of popcorn. They loved it!

I ordered cupcakes from the grocery store as well. I asked them to spray two colors on each cupcake; purple and green for the Hulk, red and yellow for Iron Man and of course Red, White and Blue for Captain America. I used puffy stickers I got at Walmart as the toppers. I just taped them to toothpicks. Super easy.

For favors I bought a bunch of Super Hero capes when we were doing Everly's party. They were a huge hit. My girls are more obsessed with these than Ace. They are incredibly cute running around in them.
I also had goodie bags with Avengers ritz, gummies and rice crispy treats.
Overall we had a blast hanging out with friends on a Friday night and loved celebrating this sweet boy!
And I had to get this picture of Ace and my cousin Brian. They have an awesome bond. The first one is from Ace's 2nd birthday and obviously the second one is his 4th.
