Perfectly Imperfect Mom

Last week was Ace's Spring Break and Everly's first birthday. To say we were busy is an understatement. Get ready for picture overload.
Friday my best friend Kat, her Mom and her girls came down to stay with us and help with Everly's party prep. I wanted to do a dessert theme party so Kat made all these cute desserts. We did a Cinderella theme so everything was girly and princess-y. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect party for her.

I decided that instead of goody bags I wanted to give the kids crowns, tutus, wands, shields and princess beach balls. I figured it was more fun for them to dress up and play pretend then have a bunch of junky toys that their parents will just throw away when they get home (I am totally guilty of this).

We also had a Cinderella come to entertain the children. I had the hardest time finding a company that had really nice looking princesses for a good price and fun activities for the party. The majority just had really poor looking princesses but when I saw Princess Party Productions site I was floored with how gorgeous the costumes and princesses were! No straggly hair and skimpy dresses (yes, there were Elsa's with skimpy dresses out there). They also offered simple face painting for no extra charge. Since we had a bunch of 3 year olds they were so excited and didn't care it was crazy face painting options. My favorite was the butterfly.
After she did face painting she read the story of Cinderella, my kids love books so this was a must, then she sang a couple songs. After that it was time to do cake so she stuck around and sang Happy Birthday to Everly. She was very sweet to all the children and made sure to take pictures with anyone who wanted to. And can we talk about her voice?! I was blown away.
After Cinderella left we tried to have Everly do her smash cake. She had taken a good nap so when she started crying I was surprised. Then my sister noticed Everly was getting her first tooth!! There was a big white bump and sure enough a tooth popped through the next day or two. Poor girl. We gave her some pain medicine and she was happy after that. All the kids played in the backyard and the adults just hung out. It was a pretty laid back party.
After everyone had left we decided to try Everly's smash cake and she went to town!!! It was seriously so funny watching her eat it. She would try to pick the whole cake up, not to shove it in her mouth mind you, she just wanted to pick it up. After she was done she started walking around the backyard and saw our neighbors in the pool a couple houses down and started "talking" to them. I don't know what it was about that moment but it was just so funny to me. She just has the silliest personality.

When you are a child the word Family is so simple. You look around at your parents and siblings and you feel secure because you know that is your family.

When you are a child the word Family is so simple. You look around at your parents and siblings and you feel secure because you know that is your family.
You know they love you and you love them.
You and your siblings have a fight and someone cries, you usually solve the issue fairly quickly because you would rather have your favorite play mate than not.
The days of playing cops and robbers seems so simple.
As we get older relationships change. We see flaws and have conflicts.

We become stubborn and hard headed. We make mistakes and hurt people. We hope they will forgive us and that we can forgive them.
It's difficult but you all try.
Family isn't as simple a term as it once was. Your circle expands and yet it closes in.
The people who mean the most aren't always blood. They are friends who turn into family.
Your roots, though, are still there.
Family is now even more meaningful. The relationships take work because we get busy and consumed with our own children, jobs and lives but it's worth it.
They may make mistakes and disappoint us but if we can forgive them it will make that bond even stronger.
Your child becomes a part of them. Their love for your child whether blood or not is incredible. This little person shows them the purest love and theirs to you.
You can't help but smile and think how incredibly blessed you really are.
Family isn't simple. It isn't cookie cutter. It can be a roller coaster of a relationship. It brings out the strongest emotions in people.
Life is short, spend it with those you love. Cherish your family.

This is dedicated to my Brother & Sister. I love you both so much! Without you I would be lost after losing Mom and Dad.

I often get this question a lot. "How do you do it?"

I think people see three young children and assume it's the hardest, most stressful life there ever was! I mean yes, having 3 under the age of 4 (and at one point 3 under 3) can be rough, especially when two of them are only 5 months apart.
I often get comments like "Bless you!" or "You really have your hands full!" and of course the infamous "How do you do it?!"  I get it, we can look like a spectacle at times.
So how do I do it? Well, it's like anything in life, you just do because you have no choice.
Every day we get up, try to follow a general routine and get through the day with as many laughs as we can. My house is rarely ever not cluttered with baby stuff and if I could fully finish laundry it would be a miracle. Half the time my kids are running around in only diapers and underwear because pulling pants up and down every time someone needs a diaper change gets old. Also if you have met Everly you will know this is no easy feat. The girl loves to scream and spin whenever she is changed.
I also have a husband who wins in the Daddy category. Whenever someone asks how I do it he is my answer. Branden picks up so much of my slack. He is a cleaning machine, plays with the kids and keeps our house from falling apart all while working. He is a savior and I am lucky to call him mine. I think people assume the Moms do it all or maybe the Dads are only there for the fun parts but not in our family. Branden takes on so much and I am very grateful. I don't think I tell him enough.
So my house is a slight disaster and my kids are half dressed but at least they are happy the majority of the time. I may be going slightly nuts through out the day but they are pretty oblivious to it. We go through harder times and super easy times but overall we make it because we just do. We learn what works and what doesn't and go with what does.
People have asked for a Day in the Life post so I will try to get that done for you all!
How do you make it work with your family?
